HOW TO GET RICH by Donald J. Trump: A Review

I have wanted to write this for a while now, although I had read the book many months ago. The piece is indeed an interesting read. This book will not teach you how to make money, but it will show you some traits and characteristics of the rich and wealthy milieu.

The book starts with a Dedication, and introduction which explains the basic reasons behind the writing of the book,-This is coined the Five billion reasons Why you should read This Book, here Donald tries to fill us in on what has happened since 1987 since The Art of The Deal was first published. Here he mentioned two business rules: Business Rule #1: If you don’t tell people about your success, they probably won’t know about it and Business Rule #2: Keep it short, fast, and direct.

From the introduction, Trump starts to give some instructions and insights straight from his life and business in Part I : The Donald J. Trump School of Business and Management, He compares running a business to Being a General He goes on to stress the need to Stay Focused, Maintain Your Momentum get a good assistance and set the standard. He explains the need to be blunt and know yourself, and know your competition. He goes on to give tips on Hiring and managing workers and finally drives in the need to Think Big And Live Large: The possibilities are always there. If you’re thinking too small, you might miss them.

Here in Part II: Your Personal Apprenticeship (Career Advice from The Donald), Donald gives useful career hints from Job interviews, to right timing of asking for a raise, the value of tenacity and the need to socialize-here he takes us to his world of golf: Golf is also, in essence, a solitary game. Being an entrepreneur, even within a large company, is a solitary game. He didn’t over rule the place of passion, personal branding and guts as important in life and career. Trump speaks on changing career, optimism, positive attitude and he goes on to draw attention to the need for well developed interpersonal and communication skills. He finally treats the need for commitment to one’s personal development and reflection

Part III Money, Money, Money, Money is where Donald gives a short insightful discussion on Financial Intelligence, Investment, negotiations, deals and the need for financially educating one’s kids.

In Part IV The Secrets of Negotiation, Mr Trump commits the section to some important rules of negotiating deals, factors to consider, the need for prior research in a good deal- In a good negotiation, all sides win .He also shows from past experience some values that are instrumental in an effective negotiation. Part V: The Trump Lifestyle Takes us up close and personal into the social life of Donald Trump, from gossip, to his various investments, the billionaire schedule and the luxury life

And finally, in Part VI: Inside the Apprentice Donald shows the deal, the human and capital resources that went into making the first edition of the reality show The Apprentice a huge success.

The two last sections the Acknowledgement and the Appendix –a focus on some of the Trump Organization Properties, brings the book to an end.

This is a book that sure, might not put some instant dollars in your pocket but would have brought you a close tete-a-tete with the Billionaire Master of the Deal.
